170?! Wow.
A friend of mine uses this same technique to make virtual tours of spaces for commercial retail, rather than mesh them into one still image. I personally prefer your use of the technique.
This is really quite awesome and unique. :thumbsup:

This one was done with nikon d100 and 28 m"m lens (x1.5(crop factor))
so it was allot of pics its was actually 3 panoramas conected one for the floor one straight ahead and one for the sky. but thats not the right way to do it

now i have a 10 m"m lens so i just take 15 pics all around and just connect it to a 360 panorama

i actually couldnt really find a tutorial for this thing
but all you need to do is to get a 360 panorama (using a tripod or not) and photoshop dose the rest
